Tension Adjustment Device (TAD)
This device was designed to more accurately test and set the release tension for
SPD style cleats. You will need a 100 in.-lb. torque wrench to use this device.
Since there are 4 tension settings on most SPD pedals, it is
important they all be set uniformly. The same number of turns of the screw
does not always equal the same release tension.
Without this device you have to go with experience and feel
which gets you in the ball park. With the TAD every technician
in your shop will be able to set the tension release to the experience level
of the rider and the results will be consistent. Since there is no guessing
involved, you will also save time. You can also be confident that your customer's
bike is leaving your shop set to the right tension for that customer.
To use the TAD you will need to attach the cleat to the bottom of the TAD using the 2 screws that come with your device. The TAD will now act as the customer's shoe while you make the release tension adjustments. Attach your 100 lb. torque wrench in the top of the TAD. Then place the cleat in the pedal, to make your adjustments.
Set the release tension by placing your hand around the pedal
and feeling when the release mechanism starts to ramp. We strongly recommend
that you make the rotational adjustment for the SPD
style cleat prior to making the tension adjustment.

The TAD comes as part of the RAD Kit and can
also be purchased as a separate item in the Fit Kit Store. |
